ZEVS
The artist
Zevs
Zevs (Christophe Aguirre Schwarz, born in 1977 in Saverne) is a pioneering French street artist in Paris. Active since the late 1980s, he owes his artist name to a near-miss accident with a ‘Zeus’ RER train in 1991.
Now recognised as one of the major artists of his generation, Zevs exhibits in the most prestigious institutions and international biennials: Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek (Copenhagen), Moscow Biennale, Centre Pompidou, Palais de Tokyo, Louvre Museum, MAMO (art centre at the Cité Radieuse in Marseille), Cabaret Voltaire (Zurich) and the Château de Vincennes. His exhibitions in New York, notably at the De Buck Gallery, also revisit the great masters of art history through a contemporary lens.
Through his daring blend of street art, conceptual art and social criticism, Zevs relentlessly questions the symbols of our time. His work, now emblematic on the international scene, is part of an approach in which ethics, ecology and reflection on the transformation of images play a central role.
