L’OCCITANE X FRIENDLY FRENCHY WITH ARMEL TRIPON
VENDÉE GLOBE 2020

Friendly Frenchy has developed shell sunglasses to equip Armel Tripon and his teams for the 2020 Vendée Globe. We invite you to set sail for THE single-handed round-the-world sailing race!

Armel Tripon is a sailor who has sailed on all ocean racing monohulls (Mini 6.50, Figaro, Class40, IMOCA… from 6,50 m to 18,28 m).

After climbing several podiums, such as the victory in the legendary transatlantique race in 2003 and the Route du Rhum in 2018, Armel is now preparing to face the Everest of the Seas!

His boat, L'Occitane en Provence, is positioned in the very exclusive list of favourites for this edition of the Vendée Globe 2020 by belonging to the eight IMOCA boats of the latest generation.

This highly innovative sixty-footer was designed by the architect Samuel Manuard and built by Black Pepper® Yachts,a Nantes-based shipyard specialising in the construction of sailing boats.

L’Occitane en Provence has the honour of being the first boat to sail up the channel of Les Sables-d’Olonne for the grand departure on Sunday 8th November 2020!

Coquillages recyclés

The result of two years of research and development, this black frame is made from 100% bio-sourced and recycled material launched by Friendly Frenchy in 2018.

It uses recycled shells: oyster, mussel and scallop shells in a mixture collected by the brand as part of the development of its micro-shell waste recycling line.

This frame is made by injection moulding in Oyonnax, a historic cradle of French eyewear expertise.

Technical lenses from DALLOZ Creations

Dalloz creation logo FF

Based in the Jura region of France, DALLOZ Creations has been the glassmaking partner of Friendly Frenchy since the launch of its shell glasses. For this collaboration, DALLOZ has enabled us to offer technical glasses that meet the specific protection needs of navigation.

The lenses are semi-polarised with the "Optimized" technology with a yellow sport mirroring.

They have been developed to facilitate the reading of digital equipment (LCD screens, on-board tools, etc.). They allow a better understanding of the water surface with an excellent distinction of reflections.

For better performance, a hydro-oleophobic treatment has been applied. Anti-mark and water-resistant, this finish protects the mirror while providing unlimited visibility!

We have also produced a version in polarised lenses.

The base material of the lenses is Polycarbonate. This recyclable material guarantees excellent impact resistance while being perfectly adapted to prolonged wear thanks to their lightness, ensuring very good resistance to scratching and abrasion.

These lenses are made in France and labelled Origine France Garantie.

L'Occitane's yellow solar touch

The Friendly Frenchy boats that dress the two branches of the frame have been coloured in L'Occitane yellow.
The frame therefore matches perfectly with the colours of this ultra-contemporary boat!

L’OCCITANE EN PROVENCE & Armel Tripon: A lasting commitment

L'Occitane Vendée Globe

The L'Occitane group has always been very vigilant about the ecological impact of its activities on biodiversity, and has chosen nature as a source of inspiration. Their products are the result of long-lasting relationships with producers by favouring short and integrated local supply chains of their raw materials.

Traceability, sustainability, ethics and quality are the pillars of the Group's commitment.

In the continuity of this approach, Armel is invested in the protection of the seas and oceans. It recently took part in the cleaning of beaches in the South of France with the help of the Surfrider Foundation Europe association, of which Friendly Frenchy has been a partner since its creation (see the dedicated article in our logbook).

MAY THE FORCE BE WITH ARMEL! GOOD WIND!

We would like to thank Armel and all the skippers at the start for the sea escape they will bring us ashore during this special period!

To "Juju"
Responsible for the Auray FabLab called La FABrique du Loch, Juju put us in touch with the L'Occitane en Provence team. We owe this collaboration with Armel to him! As an experienced race yacht preparer, Juju brought his experience of 6 Vendée Globe races to the L'Occitane team.

To the L'Occitane team
There would be no single-handed ocean racing without the teams in charge of preparing the boats. Seamanship, fittings, electronics, computers, diving... Without these real Swiss knives working in the shadow of the skippers, ocean racing would simply not happen!
